Adsense is Google's ad publishing program that allows website owners to place ads on their site and get paid when users click on those ads.

Some important facts about Adsense

1. It's probably the simplest way to start generating an income from your blog, but rarely is it enough on its own because earnings are typically low unless you have a lot of traffic.

2. Earnings range from a few cents per click right up to several dollars per click.  However, the higher-paying ads are the most competitive. The ads that most site owners earn revenue from are usually the ads that pay around $0.30 to $1.00 per click.

3. The reason it's so simple is that you only need to add some code (provided by Google) to your blog, and Google does the rest.

4. Google shows relevant ads to your users based on their previous browsing history and other factors.  Different users will see different ads because the ads are targeted to them.

5. The only potentially tricky part of Adsense is getting your blog approved by Google.  It can often take two or more attempts, but the good news is that being rejected does not affect your chances of being approved the next time you apply.

Tips for Getting Adsense approval

1. Have your Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Contact pages in place.

2. Make sure you have enough content on your blog before applying.  You can get accepted with as little as five posts (but more is better), providing those posts are reasonably in-depth.  Five posts of, say, 250 words won't cut it.

3. Written content on your blog should be original.

4. Check that you don't have any links going to error 404 pages.

5. Ensure that every page on your site has content—no pages with 'coming soon' or similar wording. If you have any pages like that, put them into 'draft' mode so that Google cannot see them.

6. Don't use any copyright images.  All images on your blog should be either your own images or sourced from websites such as Pixabay and Wikimedia (free) or Shutterstock (paid).

7. Some types of content are not accepted for Google Adsense.  See the list on the link below.
