Just want to gauge some ideas, thoughts in general about my plan.

There's no reason why you can't do that. Even if your blog is not related to cats, it can still work because the products you sell will be related to the subject of your blog (I assume).
It sounds like you plan to sell directly from your blog and in which case, Woocommerce is the best solution. It's a free plugin for WordPress, and it allows you to create a shop on your blog.
