SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of optimizing your content to give it the best chance of ranking high in the search engines. 

The only way to get a decent amount of search traffic engine traffic without paying for it is by ranking on page 1 of Google or one of the other smaller search engines, like Bing. Google is the most important one because it's responsible for around 90% of the traffic.

One important point to make is that it's the individual posts and pages that rank. Therefore a website might have hundreds of pages with only one or two that rank on page 1 of Google, but that one or two might be generating a lot of traffic.

SEO isn't complicated. In fact, it can be summed up in one sentence:

Create content that people want to read, and use a free plugin like 'Yoast SEO.'  

But, even though it's a straightforward concept, it really helps to understand how everything connects together because by understanding how things work, you can create the right kind of content. The type of content that has the potential to rank on page 1 of Google, which in turn gets you lots of high-quality, free traffic.
